Quantifying how urban landscape heterogeneity affects land surface temperature at multiple scales

چکیده

Abstract Background Landscape metrics have been widely applied to quantifying the relationship between land surface temperature and urban spatial patterns received acceptable verification from landscape ecologists but some studies shown their inaccurate results. The objective of study is compare texture-based measures as alternative indices in measuring heterogeneity effects on LST at multiple scales. Results statistical results showed that correlation increased extent (scale) under-study landscapes increased. Overall, less fragmented, more complex, larger, higher number patches, lower LST. most significant was seen edge density (ED) ( r = − 0.47) sub-region scale. Texture a stronger R 2 34.84% average) with than 15.33% all scales, meaning these had greater ability describe metrics. Conclusion This suggests for overcoming shortcomings estimating variations gives managers planners new insights into design.

Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature

The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...

Disentangling How Landscape Spatial and Temporal Heterogeneity Affects Savanna Birds

In highly seasonal tropical environments, temporal changes in habitat and resources are a significant determinant of the spatial distribution of species. This study disentangles the effects of spatial and mid to long-term temporal heterogeneity in habitat on the diversity and abundance of savanna birds by testing four competing conceptual models of varying complexity. Focussing on sites in nort...

Spatial Heterogeneity Regulates Plant-Pollinator Networks across Multiple Landscape Scales

Mutualistic plant-pollinator interactions play a key role in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem functioning. In a community, the combination of these interactions can generate emergent properties, e.g., robustness and resilience to disturbances such as fluctuations in populations and extinctions. Given that these systems are hierarchical and complex, environmental changes must have multipl...

Impact of Urban Climate Landscape Patterns on Land Surface Temperature in Wuhan, China

Facing urban warming, mitigation and adaptation strategies are not efficient enough to tackle excessive urban heat, especially at the local scale. The local climate zone (LCZ) classification scheme is employed to examine the diversity and complexity of the climate response within a city. This study suggests that zonal practice could be an efficient way to bridge the knowledge gap between climat...

Quantifying spatial heterogeneity at the landscape scale using variogram models

The monitoring of earth surface dynamic processes at a global scale requires high temporal frequency remote sensing observations which are provided up to now by moderate spatial resolution sensors. However, the spatial heterogeneity within the moderate spatial resolution pixel biases non-linear estimation processes of land surface variables from remote sensing data. To limit its influence on th...
